Geranimo!

The sun is backkkkkkk! :D Which allowed me to take some nice pictures of my growing Geraniums which I like to call Geranimo! Lol.

Some pictures were taking inside while some were taking outside on my patio. Note that the images were taken at different time of the day.

The ones with the dark shadow? That's at 6 pm.
The ones with the blue background? 11 am - 12 pm.

Lighting was all natural at shutter sync speed. Aperture was 6.1 with ISO of 100.
WB was set to Flash. Details and definition have been enhanced with sharpen mask in Photoshop. No color enrichment with saturation this time. Those colors are naturel as we French people would say.

Cheers until next time,

Rina

What is diabetes?

In 1552 BCE, Egyptian physician Hesy-Ra of the 3rd Dynasty makes the first known mention of diabetes – found on the Ebers Papyrus – and lists remedies to combat the 'passing of too much urine'.

Here's what diabetes is: Your body gets energy by making glucose from foods like bread, potatoes, rice, pasta, milk and fruit. To use this glucose, your body needs insulin. Insulin is a hormone that helps your body control the level of glucose (sugar) in your blood. Type 1 diabetes is a disease in which the pancreas does not produce insulin hence, glucose builds up in your blood instead of being used for energy. (Canadian Diabetes Association.)

The cause of type 1 diabetes remains unknown. However, it is NOT preventable, it is NOT contagious, and it is NOT caused by eating too much sugar. The body’s defense system may attack insulin-making cells by mistake, but we don’t know why. People are usually diagnosed with type 1 diabetes before the age of 30, most often during childhood or their teens. I got diagnosed with diabetes at age of 2 so I never knew how NOT to be diabetic. Sure, it's not pleasant getting injected 4 times a day however, being diabetic has some advantages. For example, I eat healthy, I watch out for my cholesterol, I exercise 3 times a week, I get doctor's check up every 6 months.

Insulin was discovered only in 1921 by Dr. Frederick Banting from Toronto. In October 1923, insulin was made commercially available in the United States and Canada. God bless Dr. Banting! Patients diagnosed with diabetes before 1923 did not have a long life. They were put on a strict diet as a way to manage the disease. It was said that the diet was close to a starvation technique.

I recently finished reading 50 Diabetes Myths That Can Ruin Your Life: And the 50 Diabetes Truths That Can Save It by Riva Greenberg. It's quite interesting how non-educated people on the subject perceives us.

So anyhow, I got inspired and decided to take the following picture.

Hélas oui, il neige!

It's snowing my friends, on April 27th! What a bad surprise Mother nature!
My crops!!! My crops!!! And not my virtual crops, my real crops!!! All that hard work planting tomatoes and cucumbers wasted! I guess I'll simply buy new ones. :S

I went to see my flowers and they haven't wilted yet but then again, the snow hasn't stopped since this morning and it's still coming down hard. Thank God my beautiful geraniums are inside and safe!!!

Equipped with a plastic bag around my SLR and with my super cool lens, I went outside to take some pictures of my almost wilted flowers. :S Using nothing but my built-in-flash and the natural light, I took some crazy good shots. Note how the purple is vibrant? Well that my friend, is the magic of Photoshop! :D I played with it and the results were pretty good.

Until next time.

Cheers,
Rina

Little models: my speciality!

Saturday April 24th was a busy day! I was booked for two photoshoots with baby boys!
:D I just finished arranging images for the 1st shoot. Adam is my friend Sarah's little boy. I've known Sarah since high school. :D We had lost contact but then we found each other through new friends 2 years ago! Adam is such a cutie don't cha think? Was a little angel throughout the whole photo session. I had a blast!

I've entitled the montage below my picture #5 of 30. All images were taking with my external flash placed on a stand and diffused with an umbrella.

Cheers,
Rina

A day in the garden!

I spend a day in the garden this Friday the 23rd, taking care of my geraniums! I spend 2 months taking care of them! Nice results right? Pots were purchased from Wal-Mart!

Believe it or not, you lose 100 calories for 30 minutes of gardening! So that day, I lost 400 calories! Lol. Despite the bad smell of fertilizer from the next door neighbor, (he's Italian so he's gonna use tons for his tomatoes, hahahaha) it was a beautiful day to spend in the dirt.

So here's what a few things look in my backyard. The trees in the images below are from our apple and cherry tree.

Picture 3 of 30!!!

Yes, I'm a perfume freak!

I think I own at least 15 bottles of perfume. My latest purchase was Armani Code Summer from the l'Oreal sale. I simply couldn't resist! The worst part of it all? I don't even use them! Lol.
Too sleepy in the morning to remember.

The last time I used my Ralph Lauren Romance, I sprayed some near my mouth which caused me to accidentally ingest some. Boy was I paranoid that day! I thought I was poisoned. But then again, this is me we are talking about. If you know me, then you surely know that I'm an hypochondriac.

I promise not to take 27 pictures of perfume for my photo objective! Not that it's bad or anything! It's actually quite challenging to get the lighting correct in order to get the perfume bottle clean and sharp. I mainly always use tungsten when working with products. Have you tried mirrors to reflect the lighting? Well, that's a neat trick I've learned in college. Instead of using 3 sources of lights, simply reflect the lighting so that it may light some shadows.

Always play with the white balance! It's cool how different the results are. Sure, you can play with the color balance in Brigde or Lightroom but, why not see the effect right off your dispay screen?

Anyhow, here's the result. Hope you like it!

Cheers,
Rina

Painting project!

Today, I got bored so I've decided to paint and by doing so, I remembered to take a picture for my photo objective.

Acrylic painting, that's what I did! I got inspired by the prayer rug that my brother bought for me from Saudi. Cheers to Rabih! :)

Back when I was studying at Vanier College, I had taken painting as a complimentary course thinking I would safe big on book fees. Boy was I wrong!!! I still remember my face when I learned that each acrylic color required for the course cost 5.95$ & more. Quinadocrine violet was 15.95$ I love quinadocrine violet!!! :D

So anyhow, here are the shots and the lighting technique.

Cheers,
Rina

A picture a month!

Hello folks!

As you may have seen it in the Facebook's newsfeed, I have decided to take a picture a month!
Well, sorry to break it to you but it ain't gonna happen! Lol. After posting my decision on Facebook, I caught the gastro bug and so, my motivation crumbled down from 100 to 0% and hence, I got lazy. Yes Feriba, you were right. :P

Nonetheless, I will still take pictures except, it won't be a picture a day. I intend on taking a total of 30 pictures with no time restrain! Ok, fine. I'm giving myself 2 months. That should be okay, right? Ha! We'll see. Anyhow, here's picture 1 of 30. Rassasi perfume, courtesy of my sister-in-law Zahra. She bought it from Saudi Arabia! I posted my final 3 shots. The description of the lighting is described below each images.
